NCL Special Collection / 4160 / Printed in Taipei, Taiwan / About 1920s / 《Faces of the Century (Part I)》

The picture was taken by Mori Ushinosuke in October of 1904. A crossbeam lies beneath the stone eaves which has carvings of human bodies and faces on it. This indicated that this is the chieftain's house. The carvings represents classes among the barbarians. The right-most one with leopard leather coat on is the chieftain of Laiyi Community. Laiyi is now located in Laiyi Township in Pingtung county.
