The original description on the wooden sign reads: “About 145 years ago, in the spring of the first year of Tenna of Emperor Reigen, 24 savages of the Murei Group of the Dapuzhu of Chiayi found a white deer in the area of Batongguan Mountain and Luantashan Mountain. The white deer escaped to the northeast. They followed the tracks left by the deer and discovered the lake (Sun Moon Lake). They soon moved to this area.
