Tainan Parking Lot

NCL Special Collection / Li Dao-yi / Japanese Colonial Period (1895-1945) / 14.5×9.2cm / 《Visual Feast》

The Tainan Parking Lot was also the Tainan Train Station. During the colonial period, it was simply known at Tainan Station. In the beginning it was a wooden building constructed in a Western style in conjunction with the Tainan-Kaohsiung railway that was completed in November 1900. In 1934 it was rebuilt as a cement structure since it had become too old and small to accommodate the then-current needs. The Tainan Train Station is in this same building today. The new facility was built with a modern look of simple yet powerful lines, while still retaining some classical elements of symmetry and decorative aspects.
