The Face Towel Banner

“Good men joining the army is like good iron being turned into nails.” Military service is not only a duty of male citizens, in the past it was even viewed as an honor. Because of this, joining the army was called “honorably enlisting.” Young men would don a red sash and be sent off my family and friends. A banner would be given to them that said, “Mr. So-and-so has honorably enlisted.” This type of banner was jokingly called “the towel banner.” This was because in this age where resources were lacking, after seeing off the young man the banner was often made into towels or even underwear!
